In order to receive or be eligible for any financial aid, the student must
be accepted for admission to the university and successfully complete these
series of steps which are known as the application process.
Complete and submit to the U.S. Department of Education the Free Application for Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA).
The FAFSA must include the Lee University School Code 003500. The preferred
method of submission is on-line at www.FAFSA.ed.gov. Students and parents of
dependents can sign this document electronically by obtaining a U.S. Department
of Education PIN at www.PIN.ed.gov.
The federal processing time is 2-3 weeks if submitted electronically. This is a
crucial step in applying for aid--federal funds cannot be awarded without it.
The information reported must be accurate and is subject to verification.
Remember to:
Complete ALL items carefully.
Include personal email address. By doing so, the U.S. Department of
Education will correspond by email.
Obtain all the necessary signatures.
Indicate Lee University as the school you want to receive your information
(Title IV Code 003500).
This should be completed as soon after January 1 as possible. Many state
agencies run out of funds very early in the award year. Tennessee’s priority
deadline is May 1 (processed date). Please note, funds for the Tennessee grant
are usually depleted in early March.
If desired, apply for Lee University Endowments Online. This site is available from January 1 to March 15. The deadline to apply for
endowments
is March 15. However, you can still apply for other types of funding
after that date.
Complete and submit any required verification documentation.
The U.S. Department of Education selects some Student Aid Reports (SAR) for
the verification process. To complete this process a student (and parents if
appropriate) is required to submit additional documentation. The student will be
notified by this office regarding any necessary forms. The Financial Aid Office
will not send any award notifications until this process is complete. Once all
required documents have been received then any required corrections will be sent
to the Federal processor. When the corrected SAR has been received then awards
will be made based on demonstrated need.
Stafford Loan Promissory Note and Entrance Counseling must be
submitted.
First-time borrowers at Lee University must submit a Master Promissory Note
(MPN) and complete entrance counseling.
Parent Plus Promissory Note and Request Form.
Parents must submit a Master Promissory Note for the initial PLUS loan and a
PLUS request form. In the event the PLUS loan is denied, then the student can be
awarded additional Unsubsidized Stafford funds. The PLUS denial is required
annually and the school must receive official notification of a PLUS loan
denial.
Perkins Loan Master Promissory Note and Request Form.
First-time borrowers at Lee University must submit a Master Promissory Note
(MPN) and complete entrance counseling.
All Federal Work Study students must complete a contract
and have an I-9 & W-4 on file prior to working.
